In this project we studied Vincent Van Gogh's life and creations. I created the artwork by pasting different colored chunks of tissue paper on a black sheet of construction paper. The tissue created movement serving as water and seaweed and served as the picture's background. I added brown construction paper to symbolize sand on the sea floor in the foreground. The four varieties of fish and different organisms coming from the seafloor that I drew in with oil pastels are all representing the middle ground.
Extension:
I could do a project similar to this one in my future classroom using tissue paper. Instead of having my students apply their tissue paper to black construction paper, I would have them paste it to a clear sheet of plastic. They could use whatever colors, shapes, etc. that they prefer to create a pattern with unity and balance. When they finish their art work we would hang them in the windows of the classroom so the light could shine through them and bring the colors and patterns to life.
