 Foot Print Introduction

My footprint introduction is a fun way to introduce myself to the class through symbols that represent who I am and what I am all about! The sun, boat, waves, and flip flops are because my favorite season is summer and I love spending time outside! I spend a lot of my time playing basketball and lifting weights at NSU. Adidas is my favorite clothing brand! I love listening to music (although I am not musically talented). Lastly, I grew up on a family farm and we own Charolais cattle!

Extension:

Another fun and hands on way to do class introductions would be to have a shield of honor template for students to fill out. They could fill it out similar to the footprint using different mediums to describe themselves. For example, out of the four sections on the shield, one could be family, another hobbies, another hometown, and the last could be about future goals/hopes. The students would have to use pictures and minimal text to create their introductory piece of art.

We also discussed several historical examples of 3D sculptures. We made our feathers out of paper to give them a hard look because they are normally soft and we wanted to challenge the view and perception of everyday objects. Before we began creating the turkey, we took time to write what we were most thankful for and why. We also drew a picture to represent what we were most thankful for. Mine was a cross to symbolize that I am thankful for my faith and the way it gets me through life. To create the turkey we started off by outlining the body on our background paper. Next, we cut out long yellow strips and folded and glued them down around the body outline to be the background feathers. Then, we repeated the process using smaller sizes and amounts for the orange and red feathers. On two of the four re...

Movement

This image of a ceiling fan in a basement is representing movement, a principle of design. The blades of the fan are the focal point that viewers are directed to when they look at this photo.

Emphasis

This image is a decorative sign that hangs in my room and it represents the art principle emphasis. The white color compared to the dark wood and the big square shape compared to the small diamond shapes all work together to create a dominance, focal point and emphasis on the "L".
